Baramulla, Dec 07:The authorities on Wednesday said that they seized a 10 feet long punt gun in Watlab area, near one of the largest freshwater lakes of Asia in north Kashmir.
The poachers fled from the spot leaving behind the punt gun. The punt gun is a large shotgun used for shooting large numbers of waterfowl.
An official said that on Wednesday morning 10 feet long punt gun, locally fabricated, was seized by the Anti-poaching Control Room of the Forest Protection Force and Wular Conservation and Management Authority on the banks of Wular Lake near Watlab.

He said that a case had been filed in accordance with the pertinent legal provisions and that an additional investigation was ongoing.

The use of punt guns in and near the water body is prohibited by the authorities, but locals claim that hunters are nevertheless using locally built firearms to kill wetland birds without impunity.

The official said that the use of punt guns by poachers has been reduced during the current year with extra efforts put forth by the sleuths of Anti-poaching Forest Protection Force and Wular Conservation and Management Authority.
